A sponsored walk by the Bowlee Community Organisation has raised over £500 for the family of a little girl from Middleton who is fighting cancer.
The Bowlee Community Organisation walked to Heaton Park on Sunday 18 June, where they raised £550 for Lucy Henderson and her three-year-old daughter, Sierra.
Sierra is bravely undergoing intensive treatment to fight stage 3 kidney cancer – which her mum has reimagined as a child-friendly tale of becoming a mermaid.

Georgina Jacques, of Bowlee Community Organisation, said: “Reaching our target means Sierra, her mum, and sister, Bella, can make some amazing memories.
“All the children and Sierra walked so far to Heaton Park in the heat, never moaning or giving up. It’s incredible to see the support and love Sierra and her family have around them and that’s because they are truly beautiful people that we should all step up and care about.”
Since Sierra’s diagnosis, the local communities have rallied around the family, including a mermaid street party fundraiser, a coast-to-coast hike and the sponsored walk from Bowlee.
Upcoming fundraisers include family fun days at the Ponderosa on 8 July, the New Inn on 15 July and a sponsored haircut by Nina Keys on 22 July.
Donations can still be made via the Bowlee Community Organisation’s community fundraiser on GoFundMe:
