Local home care company hosts coronation-themed afternoon tea fit for a king

Date published: 10 May 2023

Clients of Home Instead Rochdale had no trouble getting into the coronation spirit, with the local home care company organising a special afternoon tea, marking the historical event with some fun activities and a merry get-together.

Home Instead supports older people in their own homes, delivering care including personal care, companionship, and specialist dementia care.

Throwing a right royal knees-up at St George’s Church Hall on Bury Road, clients and their families were brought together for some entertainment, a royal quiz and a traditional British afternoon tea.

Having seen many royal events over the decades, from the last coronation back in 1953, to jubilees of recent years, guests shared their own special memories of gathering around the TV or attending community events.

Joanna Faulkner, community engagement manager at Home Instead Rochdale, said: “We had a wonderful afternoon celebrating our new king.

“It’s well-known that sadly many older people don’t get chance to socialise regularly, so we were delighted to have an excuse to bring people together.

“They say laughter is good for the soul and we certainly had that, and tasty scones, in abundance.”
