United Utilities warns Heywood residents about roadworks

Date published: 06 May 2023

United Utilities is warning residents in Heywood about potential disruption to their journeys as the company makes upgrades to the water network in the area.

The North West’s water company is building extra capacity in its water network to help manage demand from the new residential and industrial estates that have been built in the area.

The company will be carrying out work from Junction 19 of the M62, along the Queen Elizabeth II Way and down to Pilsworth Road.  Work will start on 9 May and run until 25 August 2023 and will be phased. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout.

The works are planned as follows:

  • Phase One – W/C 8 May for approx. 9 weeks– Manchester Road to Junction 19 along Queen Elizabeth Way (eastbound). Traffic flow will be maintained in both directions.
  • Phase Two – W/C 5 June for approx. 3 weeks – From Manchester Road along Queen Elizabeth Way (eastbound) to Estate Road. Traffic flow will be maintained in both directions.
  • Phase Three – W/C 19 June June for approx. 5 weeks – From Estate Road to Queen Elizabeth Way (eastbound). Traffic flow will be maintained in both directions.
  • Phase Four – W/C 10 July for approx. 6 weeks – From Hareshill Road to Pilsworth Road.  One lane closure in place westbound.

United Utilities is working closely with Rochdale Council to ensure disruption is minimised where possible.

Customers will also be contacted by United Utilities if their water supply needs to be turned off whilst the work is being carried out.

This would only be for short periods and customers would be contacted with a date, time and duration before the supply is stopped.
