Take control at the Middleton Flood Awareness Event

Date published: 14 October 2008

Middleton residents can find out how to protect their homes and family in the event of a flood at the Middleton Flood Awareness Event at Middleton Arndale Centre, Limetrees Road, on Thursday 30 October between 12pm and 6pm.

Flooding can hit at any time of the year and instances of flash flooding in the summer months are increasing. The Middleton Flood Awareness Event will focus on specific flooding issues that affect the people of Middleton, and will show residents how they can take control of a future flooding situation.

Hosted by the Middleton Township Committee, a number of expert representatives will speak at the event, including the council’s Highways and Engineering Service, Emergency Planning and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue.

Suppliers of flood defence systems will also demonstrate various products which are designed to minimise or prevent flooding.

Councillor Peter Williams, Chairman of the Middleton Township Committee, said: “The main flooding issues in Middleton relate to surface water and it is important that people at risk are given the opportunity to find out more and learn how they can best manage flooding in and around their property. The Flood Awareness Event will show people how they can do exactly that.”
