Rough sleeping event raises over £500

Date published: 26 April 2023

A rough sleeping event has raised over £500 for Get Together After Serving and Rochdale Community Trust.

Participants swapped their comfy beds for a night in a sleeping bag at the Crown Oil Arena on Friday 21 April.

Volunteers were asked to sleep outdoors – in a safe environment – for one night with just a sleeping bag or quilt for warmth, like many homeless people do on a nightly basis.

The organisers said: “We are raising awareness for all the military veterans and civilians that are sleeping rough on a daily basis.

“It is not much compared to what they do on a daily basis, but it is a good indication of what it feels like sleeping on the streets.

“The only benefit we get is we will be doing it in a safe environment.”

Food on the night was provided by the Lancashire Hospitality Co-operation.

Donations can still be made via GoFundMe.
