Death crash driver sentenced to four years

Asim Rashid, sentenced to four years and four months in jail.
A man who drove away from a crash with his girlfriend dead in the passenger seat, has been sent to prison for four years and four months.
In October last year Asim Rashid, now 32, crashed his grey Toyota Corolla into two parked cars on Featherstall Road in Littleborough. The collision killed 29-year old Jayne Casey but Rashid drove off without stopping to call an ambulance.
The car broke down after travelling a short distance from the scene of the accident and members of the public phoned for an ambulance and called the police.
Rashid, from Turfhill Road, was arrested at the scene. He had been under the influence of alcohol, was already disqualified from driving and his car was not insured.
Police Constable Iain Moss from the road policing unit said: "Rashid was already disqualified from driving even though he had never actually passed a driving test and so clearly should not have even been on the road.
"He not only chose to completely disregard this, but also got behind the wheel almost twice the legal alcohol limit. His arrogance has resulted in the tragic death of Jayne and our thoughts today of course remain with her family. I only hope that seeing Rashid behind bars helps them begin to move on from what happened."
Rashid was sentenced at Bolton Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
