Free support for the over 55s and those with disabilities with Better Health 4 Middleton

Date published: 13 April 2023

The next big Better Health 4 Middleton event – providing support for those with disabilities, and information about issues affecting people over the age of 55 – will take place at the Lighthouse Project on Friday 21 April.

The free event has been curated to show people what they are capable of, as people may feel there are many things they can’t do due to their age or ability.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Rochdale at 11am before presentations start at 11.20am in the conference suite, with entertainment provided by the Alzheimer’s Society and their dementia choir, ‘Singing for the Brain’.

Around 40 different services and exhibitors will feature on the day, alongside three presentations and a workshop from the likes of Your Trust, Living Well, Northern Care Alliance, Veterans in Communities, Rochdale and District Mind, Transport for Greater Manchester and the Greater Manchester Older People’s Network – plus many more.

Tony Ettenfield, of Better Health 4 Middleton, said: “There will be exhibitors public and private.

“We are pleased to welcome for the fourth time, Millercare from Heywood. They will be offering the chance to try before you buy or hire their mobile scooters. There will be a table full of gadgets too, like the tilting kettles for those who can't lift a kettle full of boiling water.

“Two blind people are bringing along some of their gadgets they use every day and there will be free blood pressure tests too.

“It’s free with or without a ticket, with easy access on one level from the rooftop car park or from other floors using the lift. You can shop as much as you want without paying for car parking and visit Middleton’s shops, cafes and Friday market, make a free day of it.”

Entry is free for everyone: just turn up on the door. Faster entry is available via a free ticket obtained via Eventbrite or by emailing bh4mevents@gmail.com.

Free parking is available at Middleton Shopping Centre.
