A driver was caught speeding at over 100 miles an hour on a road in Rochdale.

During an operation led by the traffic PSCOs on 19 March, the male driver was caught doing 104mph on Albert Royds Street where the legal limit is 30mph.

Officers believe it is one of the highest speeds recorded for a Ford Sierra Cosworth, which was manufactured until 1992.

Greater Manchester Police traffic officers hand-delivered a notice of intended prosecution to the driver.

Ronnie Neilson, chief inspector at GMP’s traffic unit said: “We regularly carry out mobile speed checks and will always listen to the public and our partners if they have concerns about a particular road or stretch of road.

“This is just one step towards tackling speeding and anti-social driving, it is our main priority to ensure we keep people safe on the city’s roads.

“GMP will not allow the safety of our roads to be threatened by dangerous drivers, and appropriate against will always be taken when offences are committed.”

Information about any offences can be reported to GMP in multiple ways. You can call police 101, 999 in an emergency or report online: www.gmp.police.uk

Members of the public can also report a road traffic incident online.

Alternatively, you can report information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
