Viva La Labour - Murphy moves to Spain!

Date published: 30 October 2007

Rochdale Lib Dems have expressed their dismay that senior Middleton Councillor David Murphy has, they say, moved to Spain.  They allege that Councillor Murphy stayed at the Flying Horse in Rochdale Town Centre to attend the recent Council Meeting.

Councillor Wera Hobhouse, Middleton's Parliamentary Spokeswoman said: "I am dismayed and saddened by this - it gives politics a bad name.  I am appalled at the lies by the Labour Party.  It appears that Allen Brett and the rest of the Labour Party have systematically covered this up.

"Residents in East Middleton have been conned by Labour and I think that is appalling.  It's time for a bit of honesty, Councillor Murphy should resign from his position as he getting paid a significant amount of tax payer's money doing nothing.  I have been in touch with Jim Dobbin's office and they claim to know nothing about this."

Councillor Murphy is said to be claiming to live at his son's address - this would allow him to continue serving as a Councillor.
