Travel disruption due to snow

Date published: 10 March 2023

People are being urged to check before they travel today (Friday 10 March) and only make necessary journeys, with snowfall impacting local roads and public transport services in Greater Manchester.

Motorists are advised to avoid the M62, with lane closures in both directions between J20 (Rochdale) and J24 (Huddersfield).

There are some cancellations and delays on the train network.

Anyone travelling by train should check the latest information with their rail operator or Network Rail: www.northernrailway.co.uk/service-updates

Snowfall is also affected bus services, and passengers are advised to check with their operator before travelling: www.tfgm.com/travel-updates/weather-warning

There are currently no significant issues affecting Metrolink services.

TfGM’s Head of Resilience, Lucy Kennon, said: “Heavy snowfall is making driving conditions particularly hazardous in parts of Greater Manchester and beyond and is also impacting some public transport services.

“The snow also means footpaths will also be slippery and we’re urging caution for anyone needing to travel this morning.

“We’d encourage people to only travel if necessary and for those that are to plan their journey beforehand."
