'Eva the Elf' Field receives special Mayor's award

Date published: 15 February 2023

Eva Field, a nine-year-old girl from Heywood, is making a name for herself locally due to her kindness and generosity – and has recently received a special award from the Mayor of Rochdale.

Known locally as ‘Eva the Elf’, Eva received the award for her exceptional contributions to the community, which include spending time each Friday litter picking in Queen’s Park after school.

Eva began helping out in the community after being inspired by fundraising postman, Steven Kay, who founded local charitable group Restoring Hope. Last Christmas, Eva donated her monies received to the group.

She also raises money for the local foodbank, and has helped raise money towards providing sleeping bags and tents for homeless people in the area.

Eva has previously donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that supplies real-hair wigs for children with conditions that result in hair loss such as alopecia or chemotherapy.

When meeting with the Mayor, she shared her aspirations of one day becoming Prime Minister of the UK.

Her dad, Daniel Field, said: “Eva asked him lots of questions about Heywood's future and informed him that one day she wants to be Prime Minister.

“She is now more determined than ever to make a difference. Eva looks at the world differently than anyone else I know; she doesn’t understand why we all don’t help each other, and why people don’t help the planet.

“Littering really gets at her; she says it's just lazy.”

Steven Kay added: “Eva is such a help to us,she regularly helps us out at Morrisons when we are fundraising. She does so much to help the community, be it helping clean up, cutting her hair to raise money, giving us food for the foodbank... It’s endless what she does. She's a little superstar and the future of our town.”
