Teenager seriously injured as car fails to stop
Date published: 08 October 2008
A 15-year-old boy is in a serious condition in hospital after he was mowed down in Middleton last night (Tuesday 7 October) by a car which drove away from the scene.
The boy suffered serious head and facial injuries and a broken arm and shoulder.
The incident occurred at about 9.10pm when the teenager was in the middle of Kenyon Lane, at its junction with Oldham Road, when he started to cross towards Lomas Street.
He was then hit by a car, described as a white or silver 4 x 4 jeep-style vehicle with a square roof.
Police Sergeant Simeon Holt, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "This young boy has suffered nasty injuries and I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed what happened to come forward.
"It is difficult to comprehend how anyone could fail to stop following such a serious collision and it is vital we trace the driver.
"I would also like to appeal directly to the driver to do the right thing and contact police."
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 8473.
