Smith Street car park now under council control

Date published: 14 December 2022

The Smith Street car park next to the former Mecca Bingo in Rochdale town centre is now being run by Rochdale Council.

The car park was previously operated by Parkingeye as a pay and display for Mecca Bingo customers, and comes under council control as the former bingo hall is now under offer.

Smith Street car park will be pay and display Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm including bank holidays. From 6pm to 8am, it will be free.

Initially payment must be made in the car park machine and it will only accept coins. No change is given, however, the intention is to add other payment methods.

A ticket must be displayed in the vehicle - 24 hours maximum stay. The car park is always open, however, it is limited to vehicles up to five tonnes.

Disabled badge holders can park for free provided a valid disabled badge is displayed.

Usual conditions apply such as parking wholly within a marked parking bay. All conditions of use are displayed on the conditions board at the car park.

Tariffs are

  • Up to 2 hours: £1
  • Up to 4 hours: £2
  • Up to 6 hours: £3
  • Over 6 hours: £5
