Date published: 22 November 2022

Saturday’s (19 November) Middleton Christmas Lights Switch-On is being hailed the best yet with thousands of people attending the party as the town was lit up for 2022.

The popular event included live performances from local groups, plus the mayor and his special guests including Father Christmas. Once the lights were twinkling there was a spectacular fireworks finale organised and sponsored by Middleton Shopping Centre.

Visitors also got to see and hear illuminated street theatre and displays. These included giant disco ball ‘Compact Disco’ bringing lighthearted fun to the streets with sound activated coloured lights and ‘Jacks of Frost’ a festive pair of sparkling entertainers on stilts.

There were also giant luminous angels performing to music.

The event was organised and funded by Middleton Township, and chair councillor June West said: “The community got to really enjoy themselves and get into the Christmas spirit.  I want to thank our council event organisers for pulling it all together as well as Lauren from the township Office for co-ordinating activities.  Thank you to the market and all the traders and operatives for helping and staying late to take down the stalls, and for putting on such a fabulous festive market.”
