New look for new trams
Date published: 06 October 2008
Transport leaders will unveil a new look for Greater Manchester’s 40 new Metrolink trams on Wednesday (8 October).
The trams, which have already been ordered and are costing just over £2 million each, will be added to the Metrolink network over the next three years.
They will run on the existing system as well on the new lines to Oldham and Rochdale, Droylsden, Chorlton and MediaCityUK in Salford Quays.
Senior councillors from Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) will reveal the new look on a 1.6-metre-long model tram by the tramline outside the Manchester Central convention complex.
Councillor Matt Colledge (Chairman of GMPTA), Councillor Keith Whitmore (Vice Chairman of GMPTA) and Councillor Richard Knowles (Chairman of GMPTA’s Development and Operations Committee) will be among those taking part in the event.
