Body of elderly man found in canal near Well I' Th' Lane

The body of an elderly man has been found in the canal near Well I' Th' Lane, Rochdale, on Tuesday morning (1 November).

Police were originally called to reports of concern for the welfare of an 85-year-old man on Monday evening after he had not been seen since 11.30am that day.

At around 9am this morning, officers received reports of a body found in the canal on Well I’ Th’ Lane, Rochdale.

Officers and emergency services attended but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A scene is currently in place at the location of Well I' ’Th Lane and Milkstone Road while officers carry out their enquiries. There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

DI Joanne Williams, Rochdale CID said "We are appealing for any witnesses who were at the location of the canal path on the afternoon of Monday 31 October between 12pm and 5pm who may have seen an elderly male feeding ducks."
