Middleton’s world dance champions Mia Linnik-Holden and Andrei Toader have been bestowed with the Young Dancer of the Year award at the dancing equivalent of the Oscars.

The couple, aged 19 and 20, received the award for youth ballroom at the Carl Alan Awards in London on 9 October.

They said: “What a privilege to receive the Young Dancer of the Year 2022 award for Youth Ballroom. What a lovely way to complete our youth career.

“We are very thankful to Michael Stylianos and Lorna Lee for this wonderful award and for the opportunity to show case our dancing on a truly amazing evening at the Carl Alan Awards.

“We are beyond thankful for each other, our families, sponsors, coaches and supporters.”

Mia and Andrei, who is originally from Romania, have continued to top the dance scene since rising to the youth ranks in 2018. They first became junior world champions after their partnership began in May 2015, racking up numerous titles in both the junior ballroom and Latin ranks.

Earlier this year they were named U21 Ballroom European Champions at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens where they also received fourth place in the amateur ballroom category.

Last year they were crowned champions of the North of England amateur ballroom and U21 youth British national ballroom in the British Nationals Championships, which displays the best British ballroom and Latin dancing over three days.

The Carl Alan Awards are held annually to honour people who have made a significant contribution to the dance industry. The awards are staged by Michael Stylianos and Lorna Lee with the approval of the British Dance Council.
