Former Hopwood County pupils reunite to celebrate 50 years since starting at the primary school

Date published: 23 September 2022

Former classmates reunited to share fond memories in a 50-year school reunion in Heywood on 10 September.

The reunion was organised by Tracy Ann Reece, who contacted her former classmates from Hopwood County Primary School, with people attending from Ross-on-Wye, Wiltshire and even as far as Tenerife.

The reunion saw 20 former pupils who started at the school in 1972 come together for a school dinner themed buffet at The Treehouse Café in Hopwood Park.

Attendees enjoyed cheese pie, sandwiches, meat and potato pie, Manchester tart and choc tray bake cake with pink custard as well as an adult-themed pass the parcel with a question and prize on every layer.

Guests each received a goody bag containing a 10p mix of sweets, popping candy, a bookmark, a school-themed wine charm, toys and Chinese fortune cookies all bagged with their school full names on the front.

Tracy said: “We felt the venue would be ideal as we can actually see the school from the café.

“We reminisced about favourite teachers, best memories, school crushes; it was a truly amazing night.”
