Burglar steals MI5 computer

Date published: 02 October 2008

A palmtop computer belonging to MI5 was stolen from a house in Greater Manchester on Sunday night (28 September), after a burglar got through an open window.

It is believed that the device contains information about fighting terrorism.

The police have not revealed the exact location of the address from which the handheld computer was robbed.

They say that the house, thought to have been rented by MI5, was not targeted and the robbery was the result of an opportunist theft.

Police have also said that the files on the palmtop were encrypted so access to them would be impossible.
