Man taken to hospital after Whitworth Road incident

Date published: 02 September 2022

A man has been taken to hospital after an incident on Whitworth Road on Thursday afternoon (1 September).

The nature of the incident has not yet been revealed by police, but a man was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries that are believed not to be serious or life-threatening.

Part of Whitworth Road – between Princess Street and Haynes Street – was cordoned off in both directions for a number of hours.

Initially, the incident was believed to be a road traffic collision, with Transport for Greater Manchester saying buses had been diverted ‘due to an RTC on Whitworth Road’ but an officer at the scene said someone had been assaulted.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 2.45pm on Thursday 1 September 2022, police attended an incident on Whitworth Road, Rochdale.

“A male was taken to hospital to receive treatment for injuries that are believed to not be serious or life-threatening.

“Enquiries are ongoing at this moment in time to understand the full circumstances.”
