Bamford author publishes first fantasy novel on Kindle

Date published: 02 September 2022

A Rochdale-based author has released their first book on Amazon Kindle, published on Thursday (1 September).

Tome Hall, 24, of Bamford, has published fantasy novel ‘Vixen: The Goblin and The Fox’ under the name 'T.A. Hall' after the “passion project” sat in their mind for years.

Vixen is about a young girl who is cursed into becoming a monster, and must go on a big adventure in a perilous world to put herself right.

Tome explained: “It's a story of identity, humanity and acceptance, with the backdrop of a fantastical yet dangerous world. I'm aiming for a Terry Pratchett Discworld sort of series: lots of different stories that spin a web across my world, where I can introduce some amazing diverse and queer characters that I feel like really need presenting in modern fantasy.

“As someone who identifies as queer, that's very important to me. Though I don't have a number of books I aim to write, I know that Vixen is a part of a trilogy, with the second book already completed and being held captive.”

Having always been creative, Tome said they needed to find “an independent way” of being creative when Covid hit.

“I took my passion, and, inspired by my games of Dungeon & Dragons, I began to write. I read so many things about people self-publishing books online through Amazon and other sites, that I felt I couldn't least try.

“Though Vixen is only available on Amazon, I hope that in the near future I can share it everywhere.”

Tome cites their favourite fantasy book series as ‘The Name of the Wind’ by Patrick Rothfuss, adding they have been a fantasy fan since reading JR Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings in primary school.

They began playing Dungeons & Dragons, a popular tabletop RPG, when at university, adding: “After playing a few games I felt I very much needed control then started running my own game in my own world.”

Vixen: The Goblin and The Fox is available on Amazon Kindle.
