Success of summer programmes at Deeplish Community Centre

Date published: 25 August 2022

Children and young people and adult volunteers participated in interactive, learning and fun-based challenging activities during Deeplish Community Centre's four-week summer programme.

This included outdoor sports, arts and interactive activities as well as a centre-based programme to learn about climate change, healthy eating and drinking, arts and circus skills.

Volunteers and staff worked closely with the GMP Rochdale neighbourhood team to make sure everyone is involved in keeping safe and standing against any crime or criminal activities. This included learning about policing careers, work involved in becoming police officers and caring for the community.

Children and young people took initiatives such as “litter-free streets” and pledged to eat healthy food. The community centre also worked in partnership with Rochdale Living Well to promote dental health and 'brushing twice a day without rushing'.

Local councillors and community leaders presented certificates to children and young people for their active participation, and a community open day was held on 14 August to celebrate cultural diversity, inclusion and community participation.

It provided everyone with an opportunity to come together to be a part of family fun activities as well getting information about centre services, projects such as welfare advice, Talk English, ESOL and well-being activities for adults, learners and children.

Sohail Ahmad JP, operations manager from Deeplish Community Centre, said: “We are committed to providing all children and young people with opportunities to engage, learn and build confidence in a safe and community-friendly environment. We place greater care in taking safeguarding, enrichment and well-being activities for everyone at Deeplish hub.”
