Kashmiri Productions UK to host debut Pahari-Pothwari Film Festival

Kashmiri Productions UK is hosting its inaugural Pahari-Pothwari Film Festival in Rochdale this autumn.

The film festival invites filmmakers, producers and the general public to submit short films centred around the theme of being the last Kashmiri, and what you would do.

Pahari-Pothwari is spoken by Kashmiri and Pothwari communities

Festival director Zafar Iqbal said: “The film festival is a not-for-profit community project and aims are to raise awareness of Pahari-Pothwari language, culture and identity through engaging, entertaining and educational films from around the world.

“Everyone is super excited to attend the festival, be a volunteer or anything to do with film production or the festival as this is the first festival in the world that will raise the profile of Pahari-Pothwari community through moving image.”

Films must be submitted by Sunday 11 September; shortlisted participants will be contacted by Sunday 18 September. Selected film teams will receive an award, invite to the festival and dinner.

Rules, technical and general information:

• Film must not exceed three minutes

• Shoot on mobile (landscape) or on film camera

• Shoot in one take or multiple takes

• Film must be written, produced, shot, edited and completed in 2022

• Free submission and you can submit up to three films

• Open submission to all communities • Only original films will be considered

• Film can be in colour or black & white

• Film must be in Pahari-Pothwari language with English subtitles

• Film should be submitted in MP4 & DVD

• Every genre will be considered (bear in mind the audience will be of all ages and all walk of lives) such as comedy, romance, action, horror, drama etc

• Monologues are also welcome
