Security fencing wanted for outdoor environmental room in former school bus at Falinge Park

Date published: 23 August 2022

Community Development Trust Vintage Worx has won a free decommissioned yellow school bus from Transport for Greater Manchester, and is appealing for help with security fencing ahead of its arrival.

The group has won one of the decommissioned buses after applying “for years” for a bus, which will be put in the walled garden area of Falinge Park, where Vintage Worx is based.

Director Tracie Powers explained that due to past antisocial behaviour on the park – and the ambitious plans for the bus and the surrounding area, which is also benefitting from wildflower planting for native pollinators - the group is keen to secure the area.

She said: “We’re going to turn it into an environmental activity room with a kitchen garden and outdoor community cooking area. We’ve got all the equipment and funding; we just need security fencing.”

Vintage Worx is waiting for a delivery date but expects the bus to arrive in a few weeks. Tracie has raised £800 towards the purchase of security panels, but says a total of 75 are needed.

Damage caused by vandals
Due to past antisocial behaviour on the park, the group is keen to secure the area.

She added: “Because of past behaviour and the amount of times I’ve had to clear burnt out planters, we want to keep this secure. We’re absolutely chuffed to be getting this bus because we’ve not had any outdoor activity facility for people.

“If any construction companies have any old panels and links we could use, please get in touch.

“We’re not asking for new but we’ll take anything to paint and reuse.”
