Season of fun for Springfield Park Care Home residents

Date published: 20 August 2022

Residents at Springfield Park Care Home in Springfield Park enjoyed a Hawaiian-themed party on Saturday (13 August). The party included performances from singer Danny Kay, of Littleborough, plus a children’s magician, bouncy castle, and refreshments.

The day raised £188, which is going towards the home’s Christmas party, and follows fun events like pebble painting, a vintage tea dance, and a children’s dog show. Upcoming events planned by the new management team  include lunch at Success to the Plough and a trip to Blackpool Illuminations next month.

Adele Eccles, who has recently taken over as the home’s activities lead, said staff are aiming to get the community involved with the home.

“A lot of people don’t know we’re here because we’re tucked away in such beautiful surroundings. I’m planning as much as I can and we are now booked up with events until the end of the year,” she said.

“We recently did pebble painting and scattered them around the park for local children to find during the school holidays. Everybody who brought one back to the home got a reward.

“We went to a vintage tea dance at Touchstones two weeks ago and the residents loved it.”

Adele and the other activity staff will run a new tea room at the home, called ‘Gracie’ after the Rochdale superstar Gracie Fields.

She continued: “Our new home manager Kay Darlington is brilliant. We’ve just had work done to create a team room which is so exciting. We’re also having a lot of work done on the home to improve our residents’ lives with us, like new bathrooms and a whole new kitchen.

“We also have a lady who visits from Dream Ark with two donkeys called Willow and Brambles, and we’ve also adopted three cats as all of our residents love animals.”
