Springhill Hospice invites you to Walk to Remember your loved one

Date published: 21 August 2022

Last year Springhill were joined by over 200 supporters at the hospice for their Walk to Remember challenge, which saw families, friends and strangers join together to honour someone special to them.

Walk to Remember returns on Saturday 17 September. This is a 10-mile circular route; starting at Springhill Hospice, making your way to Ogden Reservoir and then returning back to Springhill for the finish line. The 10-mile route also includes an optional 1.5mile scenic path around Ogden Reservoir.

The Walk to Remember route will be fully marshalled, and participants will also be provided with a map and directions. People are encouraged to go at their own pace and the challenge is open to all abilities.

Jo Ali, Springhill’s Events and Campaigns Fundraiser, commented: “This is only our second Walk to Remember event, and we are hoping to smash last years record of participants. We have taken on board feedback from our first year and adapted the route to make it easier - although it remains a 10-mile challenge.

“We cannot wait for the sight of hundreds of walkers setting off from the hospice in their Springhill t-shirts and making their way towards the beautiful Ogden reservoir. We are so proud of the many walkers who have already signed up in memory of loved ones, and their determination to complete the walk in their memory.”

Walk to Remember at Springhill Hospice

Springhill supporter Mandy, who is taking on the challenge in September, said: “I am walking for two reasons.

“Firstly, I am remembering my brother Jamie and secondly to raise money for the angels at Springhill and the service they provide.

“Jamie was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and fast tracked for discharge due to having less than six months to live. My 43-year-old baby brother was dying and there was nothing I could do; I was at a loss. Then I received a call from Springhill Hospice at Home service - they were coming to help me so I could fulfil his dying wish and bring him home.

“My brother, my family and I were treated with dignity and respect by Springhill. Nothing was too much trouble, their support and service was invaluable. I will always be forever grateful to them. This is my way of giving back a little to them as a way to say thank you.”
