A celebratory football match between two local mental health groups for men was won by the Rochdale side on Sunday (14 August).
Andy’s Man Club Rochdale met Andy’s Man Club Bury at Gigg Lane for the match, with Rochdale ending the day as the victors with a 4-1 win.
Rochdale’s goals were scored by Dale Burke (2), Muammer Okay and Jake Brearley, with outstanding performances from the likes of Paul Riley, Levi Woolley, Michael Ratu, Brad Gartland, Dale Burke, Ryan Price and Josh Brearley just to name a few.
The friendly game was co-ordinated by Rochdale facilitator Jake Roach and Bury facilitator Jacob Critchley, who secured the use of the Bury FC ground.
Jake said: “The match went as perfectly as we could have hoped for. Both teams put their heart and soul into the match, leaving everything on the pitch for spectators to witness.
“Each and every man should be proud of the amazing efforts they put on show. The day wouldn’t have been what it was if it wasn’t for friends and family who came out to support our lads and Andy’s Man Club.
“What we achieved was a stepping stone in proving that it is okay to talk and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, however dark it seems. I can’t say enough how thankful I am to everyone who participated and spectated to make the day as amazing as it was.”
Open to any male aged 18+, Andy’s Man Club is a men’s mental health charity that supports, empowers, and gives men the opportunity to talk about things that are affecting their mental health and wellbeing. The sessions are free to attend, and really work to challenge the stigma around men’s mental health. The club started out in Halifax and it’s since grown into a national venture.
There are two clubs in Rochdale, one at Mayfield Sports Centre and one at the Our Spot Community Hub at the Crown Oil Arena – which meet every Monday from 7-9pm (except Bank Holidays).
