Eid Greetings from Rochdale Council of Mosques

Date published: 10 July 2022

A message from Tahir Mahmood Chairperson, Rochdale Council of Mosques (RCM).

The end of Dhul Qa’Dah is identified by the sighting of the new moon. This year the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah 1443 in the UK started on 1 July 2022. This is a very special month for Muslims as it is a time when the annual Hajj (Pilgrimage) takes place. Millions of Muslims will visit the holy site of Mecca in Saudi Arabia to perform their pilgrimage. It is a very spiritual and emotional time for Muslims.

The end of the pilgrimage is celebrated by the festival of EID-UL-ADHA. This year this will be celebrated by those completing the Hajj and those who follow Saudi Arabia Moon Sighting, on Saturday 9 July 2022. Rochdale Council of Mosques who follow the sighting of the Moon in the UK and Morocco will celebrate EID on Sunday 10 July 2022.

A typical Muslim day will start with morning prayers, visits to the cemetery and the meeting and greeting of friends and family.

Eid is all about children and families, sharing gifts and socialising. It is not just about your own family but making sure families that don’t have the funds to celebrate Eid, are given money to buy new clothes and gifts. This allows them to celebrate this special day together. I pray the Almighty eases the suffering across the world and brings peace. Wishing you all Eid Mubarak.

Have a safe Eid.

Eid Mubarak.
