Rochdale Borough Sport & Culture Awards return to celebrate inspirational people from within the borough

Following a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Rochdale Borough Sport and Culture Awards return this year to celebrate the achievements of clubs, community groups, local artists, individuals and volunteers in the borough.

Nominations are now open for this year's event which will take place at Heywood Civic Centre on Thursday 24 November.

The awards celebrate those who have gone above and beyond in their chosen sport over the past 12 months. There will be seventeen awards handed out on the evening.

Culture award categories include:

  • Artist of the Year
  • Community and Education Project Award
  • Cultural Champion Award
  • Cultural Event of the Year
  • Culture and Health Award
  • Facilitator of the Year
  • School Commitment to Arts, Heritage & Culture Award
  • Young Creative Award

Sport award categories include:

  • Changing Lifestyle
  • Community Club/Group of the Year
  • Disability Physical Activity Champion
  • Initiative of the Year
  • School Commitment to PE and Sport Award
  • Unsung Hero
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Workforce Advocate
  • Young Sports Achiever of the Year

Andy King, Chief Executive at Your Trust, the local charity that manages and hosts the awards on behalf of the borough, said “We’re delighted that the Rochdale Borough Sport and Culture Awards are returning this year.; It’s always a fantastic event and shines a light on the heroes of sport and culture in the borough.

“Sport and culture has played an extremely important part in supporting the physical and mental health of the local community through the Covid-19 pandemic. There is a lot of fantastic work that takes place throughout the borough so it’s really important to celebrate the great contribution that local people, clubs and organisations make.”

If you know an inspirational individual, club, community group, school or organisation, nominate them here.

Nominations should cover achievements during April 2021 to March 2022. Individuals, clubs and organisation can nominate themselves. The closing date for nominations is Sunday 31 July 2022.


The Awards are the first in Greater Manchester to celebrate both sport and culture and Your Trust is looking for partners to help launch and deliver the 2022 awards by sponsoring one or more categories.
