Rochdale primary school aims to raise £1,000 to support the physical and mental health of pupils with inspirational workshop

A Rochdale primary school is aiming to raise £1,000 to support the physical and mental health of pupils and support professional athletes via Sports For Champions.

St Mary's CofE Primary School on Oldham Road is hosting an inspirational workshop with UK & European scooter champion Jamie Hull on 30 June.

The pupils will benefit from physical activity, an inspirational talk including medal display and a Q&A session.

Jamie, 20, began riding a scooter at the age of nine after watching a video of someone doing a backflip on one. Within six months, he landed his own first backflip and now, 11 years later, can land a triple backflip.

He said one of his greatest achievements was “becoming a European and UK champion in the same year.”

Sports For Champions UK (CIC) aims to inspire children and provides schools with the opportunity to fundraise through the community, which can be utilised for new resources or facilities.  

Sports For Champions events are held in support of schools, which keep 60% of the funds raised to spend on resources that will enrich young peoples’ education/experience.

Professional athletes in need of support are the only other beneficiaries from the remaining 40%.

St Mary's CofE Primary School will benefit from the money raised as they will be able to invest in new equipment and fund opportunities for the children in afterschool clubs.
