Date published: 29 September 2008

A Heywood man was led to safety by fire fighters after a blaze broke out at his flat on Meadow Close.

The fire started when a pan of food was left unattended and caught light.

Fire crews from Heywood and Bury stations attended the incident on Saturday evening at 5pm.

The blaze was put out using a hose reel and smoke was removed from the building using a positive pressure fan.

The 33-year old man refused medical treatment.
