Date published: 01 June 2022

A man from Rochdale has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in Oldham last weekend.

Rudi Cardoso, 31, was arrested in the Ipswich area of Suffolk in the early hours of Sunday 29 May before being brought to a Greater Manchester custody site – where he has since remained for questioning.

Cardoso has been charged with one count of murder and has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today (1 June).

The man killed has now been formally identified as Paulo Da Silva. Paulo – aged 48 – suffered serious injuries before sadly dying on arrival at hospital following a reported stabbing on Union Street at around 4.20am on Saturday 28 May.

Paulo’s family has been kept updated as the investigation progresses, and specially trained officers are continuing to do all they can to support them.
