The Bangladesh Association and Community Project, based in the Wardleworth area of central Rochdale, has received over £400,000 in funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.
Having been granted £437,189, the Bangladesh Association and Community Project (BACP) will use the funding to build a double-storey extension to its current centre based at 108 Ramsay Street.
This will provide much-needed space to carry out simultaneous multiple activities and hold larger events and group activities. It will also provide a more accessible space to enable gender-specific activities and culturally sensitive services.
The building extension is likely to be completed within six months of the start of the project. The relevant planning permission has already been granted.
Muhibur Rahman, chairman of BACP, has profusely thanked The National Lottery Community Fund for the funding.
He said: “This will open up tremendous opportunities for the organisation and the communities alike; the range of activities and services will multiply with the number of beneficiaries projected to increase over three-fold upon three years of completion of this capital project. There is thus a great potential to make a big difference to people’s lives.”
The Bangladesh Association and Community Project is a long-established charity which provides local services for the communities including local Bangladeshi, Pakistani and the Kashmiri population.
Working alongside the local authority and other agencies, it aims to reduce the deprivation of the ethnic communities within Rochdale and bring them the opportunities to break down social and economic barriers.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest funder of community activity in the UK and distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.
