Saint George's Night celebrations at St Andrew's Church
Wardle Anderson Brass highlighted the annual Saint George's Night celebrations at St Andrew's, Dearnley, on Saturday (23 April).
It was a full house at the church where patriotic hymns and songs, the banner of England’s patron saint and lots of flag-waving were the order of the evening.
A rendering of the National Anthem, followed immediately by a shout of “C’mon England!” from the back of the church, provided one of the highlights.
Saint George is celebrated the world over, having been born into a rich Christian family in Turkey before joining the Roman army.
According to legend, Saint George slew a dragon which had been terrorising a village.
