Friendly football ‘rematch’ in aid of Springhill Hospice
Date published: 25 April 2022
An 11-a-side friendly match will take place between GMP Rochdale and BASA Rochdale
A friendly football ‘rematch’ between Greater Manchester Police and the Bangladeshi Arts & Sports Association (BASA) will take place at the Crown Oil Arena on 23 May to raise money for Springhill Hospice.
BASA is a non-profit organisation which was set up in Rochdale in 1990. It was created for the Bangladeshi community to keep socially and physically active, from organising football matches to helping anyone and everyone in any way possible, promoting community cohesion and tackling social exclusion, in particular using the power of sports and arts.
Over the last 12 months, BASA Rochdale has been working proactively with GMP Rochdale. In 2021, they decided to play a friendly football match to highlight the start of collaboration work, predominantly looking at tackling different elements of community cohesion, bridging the gap between diverse communities and GMP using sports.
To celebrate 2022, a rematch has been planned – with the public invited to show their support at the Crown Oil Arena.
A small entry fee applies (£2 adults; £1 children) with food available on entry in exchange for a small donation. All proceeds will go to Springhill Hospice.
Doliz Miah, of BASA, said: “This is a family event and a lot of effort and time by BASA, GMP and Rochdale AFC Community Trust has been given to make this successful.
“This is a huge milestone for BASA and we hope you can support us on the evening.
“Thank you to GMP, Rochdale AFC Community Trust, kit sponsor Pavilion, Elite Design & Print, My Designer Clothing, Rochdale Borough Council, Communitea Room, Indialicious, Sporting England, Action Together and TNL Community for continued support and recognition.”
