Triple recognition for Smallbridge energy efficiency scheme

A refurbishment scheme at Buckley View in Smallbridge has been recognised with three upcoming award nominations.

The scheme has seen 23 bungalows receive investment to help improve the energy efficiency of the homes and reduce carbon emissions using a whole house fabric first approach.

Work carried out includes replacing cavity wall and roof insulation, external wall insulation with a brick slip finish, upgraded ventilation, and new windows and doors. These improvements will improve the efficiency of the homes, aiming to improve thermal comfort, reduce consumption, and lower carbon emissions as a result.

The scheme has been shortlisted in "large scale project of the year" at the North West Energy Efficiency Awards, for "sustainability project of the year" at the Aico HomeLink Community Awards 2022, and for "best retrofit initiative" at the Northern Housing Awards.

The refurbishment, delivered by partners EQUANS and designed by TADW Architects, is one of a series of demonstrator projects that Rochdale Boroughwide Housing is carrying out.

These projects will inform RBH’s ongoing approach to improving the energy efficiency of homes and reducing carbon emissions, helping to identify the best ways to meet Greater Manchester’s 2038 target to be carbon neutral. RBH’s new strategy sets out how they will rise to the climate emergency through greener, low carbon and climate resilient communities
