Rescue cat Spritzer delivers donations of Easter eggs to Fairfield Hospital

Date published: 21 April 2022

A cat who lives in the grounds of Fairfield Hospital has helped collect over 1,000 Easter Eggs for patients and staff at the hospital.

Rescue cat Spritzer and her owner Heléna Abrahams have run ‘Spritzer’s Easter Egg Challenge’ for the last few years, collecting chocolate eggs for the patients at Fairfield.

After going missing one day five years ago, Heléna – who has been leading the ‘Gizmo’s Legacy’ campaign for local authorities to check all cats killed or injured on the roads for a microchip - fit the tuxedo cat with a tracker – where it was discovered Spritzer was visiting the mental health ward at Fairfield, and staff and patients alike love her.

The black and white rescue cat has become a firm favourite at the hospital, where she spends her days visiting patients on the mental health ward, and documenting her adventures on social media.

For several years, Heléna and Spritzer have used the kitty’s fame to collect Easter eggs for the hospital with supermarkets in Heywood and Bury hosting donation points before Heléna and her group collect the eggs for delivery.

Last week, it was discovered that someone had brazenly stolen donations from the Bury Tesco, under the guise of being with the campaign.

Tesco has confirmed it is investigating the incident.

Over 70 chocolate eggs were donated overnight by local residents to replace those taken after the incident hit local headlines in Rochdale and Bury.

A first delivery of Easter eggs was made to the mental health ward – where Spritzer regularly visits patients – on Saturday (9 April). The rest of the eggs were delivered on 12 April by Spritzer, Heléna and Bury MP James Daly.
