Youngsters launch their own movie

Date published: 27 September 2008

Laughter and fun filled the air when youngsters, their parents and carers were treated to a meal at Pizza Hut to celebrate the launch of their new DVD. Rochdale Council have produced the film to highlight the valuable service provided by ‘Multilink’ which provides regular family-based short break care for children and young people with disabilities.

Aimed at finding new recruits, the DVD will be given to people who are interested in becoming short break carers. It shows young people and their parents using the service together with information about becoming a carer and how rewarding it can be.

Around 20 youngsters enjoyed the party at the restaurant on Sandbrook Park, including the ‘cast’ of the new film.

Glen Olalla, Children with Disabilities Resource Manager at Rochdale Council, said it was a great evening: “It was our way of thanking everyone for their hard work and contribution to the DVD. Multilink is a fantastic way to support families of children with disabilities but in order to help more we need people to come forward to be carers."

Support is provided for children with disabilities ranging from cerebral palsy to communication and learning difficulties. Staff now hope that as many people as possible will see the DVD and that they’ll be inspired to become a carer.
