When can you expect £150 council tax rebate to be paid

Date published: 09 April 2022

In February, central government announced a national council tax rebate to help towards energy bills.

Households in England, which are in council tax bands A-D, will receive a £150 rebate.

Legally, the government has set a requirement that all councils must make these rebate payments to all eligible residents from April 2022 and by September 2022 latest.

In Rochdale, those paying council tax by direct debit are due to get the payment between April and May 2022.

Getting the money to council taxpayers without direct debit arrangements will take longer as those who pay by cash or cheque will have to apply to the council which will have to undertake pre-payment checks.

The council has said it will arrange alternative payment methods for those who don’t pay their council tax via direct debit and will announce how this will be done ‘in the coming weeks’ on its website.
