Lower Broadfield car park becomes disabled parking only

Date published: 08 April 2022

The Lower Broadfield car park on King Street in Rochdale town centre is being transformed into disabled only parking.

All standard bays were removed from the car park some months ago, with half of the car park being converted to yellow disabled bays.

However, despite only half of the space being converted, some motorists have reported receiving a ticket for parking there recently, even though they are not in a disabled bay.

Both the ticket machines at the Lower Broadfield car park have been covered with a blue sheet, and a laminated A4 printout on the ticket machine inside the car park states that the car park is for blue badge holders only.

One source told Rochdale Online that the blue covers make it appear as thought the ticket machines are simply out of order, rather than there being a change of use on the car park, whilst another said: "A sign to me is metal printed signs on poles around the car park with disabled signs printed on each bay."

A spokesperson for Rochdale Borough Council said: "We are in the process of reconfiguring Broadfield Lower car park in Rochdale town centre.

"Anyone who thinks that they have been issued a parking fine incorrectly should contact the council using the details on their ticket. Information about the appeal process is also available on our website."
