Rochdale law students visit Parliament

Law students from Rochdale Sixth Form College paid a visit to local MP, Tony Lloyd, in the Houses of Parliament

Law students from Rochdale Sixth Form college paid a visit to their local MP, Sir Tony Lloyd, in the Houses of Parliament as part of their trip to the capital. 

Robyn Lord, teacher of law at Rochdale Sixth Form, said: "The trip was a huge success and the students really enjoyed it. With it being the first trip we have been able to go on since Covid, I felt it was extremely rewarding for the students to see Parliament in all its glory, and to also speak with Tony on a personal level. 

”I felt that hearing his views on what he wants for our borough was really nice, and I think it will open up those doors to our students when they’re able to vote and be involved in the democratic process." 

Mr Lloyd said: "I was delighted to welcome Ms Lord and her students in Parliament. They had been learning about how Parliament works, and we talked about the democratic process and how their voices could be heard. We also talked about how they could campaign and petition for issues they are passionate about. 

"I was asked some insightful and pretty challenging questions, and it is inspiring to know that they will soon be informed voters with the power to change their community here in Rochdale." 

"Any school or college can visit Parliament for tours and a full day of events. If people are interested, please contact my office and we will arrange it for them."
