Cricket club devastated by fire
Date published: 26 September 2008
Officials were left devastated today after a fire broke out at Bamford Fieldhouse Cricket Club late last night (Thursday 26 September). The blaze at the pavilion on Hollin Lane caused severe fire and smoke damage before it could be put out.
Three fire engines were at the scene at around 11pm after smoke was spotted coming from the building. The ceiling of the recently-refurbished pavilion had collapsed by the time firefighters arrived.
There was also damage to the conservatory at the front of the pavilion but the fire was extinguished before it could spread to the changing rooms.
Club captain and chairman, Andy Barton said: "We spent so much money to get the building refurbished. It looked superb and now it has been destroyed. The damage is severe and there is water everywhere from the hoses. I'm absolutely devastated at the moment."
