Local elections – have your say on 5 May

Date published: 26 March 2022

The deadline to register to vote in this year's local election is Thursday 14 April, and due to boundary changes in some wards, all 60 councillors seats are being contested on Thursday 5 May.

On 5 May, residents will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them on Rochdale Borough Council, with all 60 of the seats being contested. This means that electors will be able to vote for up to three candidates in their ward instead of just one.

In order to vote, residents must be on the electoral register. With the deadline to register to vote fast approaching, the council is urging people who are not registered at their current address to make sure they are registered in time.

The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Thursday 14 April. It takes just five minutes to apply online at rochdale.gov.uk/registertovote

There are a number of ways to have your say - you can vote in a polling station, by post, or by appointing someone you trust to vote on your behalf - a proxy vote.

Clare Poole, elections manager at Rochdale Borough Council said: “The all-out elections this year are very important – they’re an opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who represents you on issues that directly affect day-to-day life here in the borough, but time is running out to make sure you can take part. If you’re not registered by 14 April, you won’t be able to vote.”

The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 19 April and a proxy vote 5pm on Tuesday 26 April.
