The Irish tricolour
The Irish tricolour flag was raised in Rochdale for St Patrick’s Day on Thursday (17 March).
Members of Rochdale’s Irish community gathered at Number One Riverside for the annual flag raising, organised by Pat and Jeanette Shine.
The distinctive green, white and orange flag was raised by the Mayor and Mayoress, Aasim and Rifit Rashid as attendees sang the Irish National Anthem, Amhrán na BhFiann.
This was followed by a minute's silence for the people of Ukraine, and a speech from the Mayor before an Irish singalong and step-dancing closed the event.
Pat said many attendees hailed the event as “one of the best.”
The raising of the Irish tricolour was originally organised by Patsy McGuire around 18 years ago.
