A fundraiser at Falinge Park on Saturday (12 March) has raised over £1,000 for Ukraine.
Families and friends came together to wash cars, bake cakes, make bracelets and keyrings, sell plants and cards, take part in a tombola and grab a bag to raise a whopping £1,064.
The donation will now go to the Association of Ukrainians (AUGB) in Manchester to help those who are fighting for Ukraine.
Councillor Rachel Massey, who helped organise the event, said: “We wanted to do something, anything that we could to try and raise funds to help in Ukraine.
“We have all seen the tragedy and devastation and we couldn’t just sit by and do nothing. We came together as the fantastic community we are to contribute towards the hope of a better tomorrow in Ukraine.”
Iryna Lisnyj, from the Rochdale Ukranian Club, said: “The Ukrainian community in Rochdale wish to give a huge heartfelt thank you for the wonderful event held to raise funds for Ukraine.
“A big thank you, particularly to Councillor Rachel Massey plus Tracie and Sam Powers from Vintage Worx, Falinge Park, for their hard work in setting up this fundraising event. It uplifts our spirits that a group of people, some of whom had never heard of Ukraine, can come together as one and give their time and effort to raise money to help a nation that now sits in ruin and their people driven out to an unknown future.
“Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts.”
All support is warmly welcomed and you too can send a donation to the bank account for the Association of Ukrainians (AUGB), Barclays Bank, Sort Code: 20-54-58, Account Number: 50127663. Please add a reference with your details.
