Carol Kavanagh has been named Middleton’s ‘local hero’ by redistribution superstore Company Shop for her being an exceptional and compassionate leader for Manchester Community Response North’s teams.
Carol was given the award – plus a £100 voucher for the shop – for her inspirational work as service manager for Manchester Community Response North, a hub set up to support Manchester's most vulnerable people cope with the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
Under Carol’s leadership, her teams remained in high spirits, despite being in a time of great uncertainty, as they delivered first-hand support to people in the community who were unable to attend hospital due to Covid-19. Her leadership enabled the teams to cooperate, coordinate intervention, remain current to national guidance, deliver a high standard of clinical intervention, and offer kindness to patients and each other.
Company Shop Middleton store manager, Akbar Yakub, said: “After what has been a challenging period for everyone, we felt it was important to recognise the amazing contributions frontline workers like Carol make every day to our community. Our Local Heroes campaign allows us to give something back to those who’ve been a pillar of support to others during this difficult time.
“I would like to thank everyone took part in this campaign. Whilst it wasn’t easy choosing between so many wonderful nominations, I’m really pleased to have selected Carol for keeping spirits high in her team as they looked after vulnerable members of the community.”
