Morrison’s Rochdale has announced a new charity partner supporting children’s hospices.
The supermarket has linked up with ‘Together For Short Lives’ to support the families of children in hospices and help the children have as fulfilling lives as possible during their palliative care.
The charity was selected after a colleague vote, with 35 charities eventually dwindled down to a final three, with ‘Together For Short Lives’ announced as Morrison’s new charity partner on Monday 14 February.
Morrison’s have set up a raffle in their Rochdale store and promise plenty more fundraising events during their two-year partnership with the charity.
The shop has also set up a designated area for customers to donate and purchase items for local food groups, as well as an 'Easter egg donation station’, which aims to provide children in the community with a chocolate treat this Easter.
Emma Pedgrift, the supermarket’s community champion, said: “I like to invite local businesses along to promote what they do, but also I ask them to make a donation to the Morrison’s charity.
“Customers can come into store, they can pick-up an amount of their choice and it gets added to the bill. We’ve been having daily collections because the donations are that high.”
Emma also confirmed that the store has received a huge amount of food and clothing to be sent to Ukraine amid their ongoing crisis, with Morrison’s requesting cash donations to support those affected, with plans to run this until 31 March.
There are also plans for a number of events in the future including quiz nights, bingo nights and fun days on the car park with music and dancers.
