Speak Up! It’s Your Health road show comes to Rochdale

Residents can cycle themselves a smoothie this weekend at a health road show in Rochdale.

The ‘Speak Up! It’s Your Health’ event, led by NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, is being held at The Butts on Saturday 27 September and gives people the opportunity to tell their local NHS what they think about future health priorities.

As well as using pedal power to blend fresh fruit into a tasty, healthy drink, people will also be able to record their feedback about the health plans in the ‘big brother’ video room.

In addition, people will be able to get advice from local health trainers on diet, exercise and stopping smoking programmes, as well as challenging them and themselves on a Wii Fit. There will also be giveaways at the event, which runs from 10am to 5pm.

Trevor Purt, Chief Executive from NHS HMR said: “Your views and comments are really important to us as we really want you to get involved in shaping the health services for the future.

”They’ll be many health activities taking place in Rochdale on Saturday, and I’d encourage everyone to come down and take part.”

Preventing ill health is central within the health plans, helping people to lead a healthier lifestyle and live longer. Future plans incorporate developing more care closer to home, developing more GP and dental services, ensuring high quality hospital care, and improving mental health, children and young peoples’ and adult and older peoples’ services.

The PCT receives more than £330 million from the Government to buy the right health services and is looking how best to use this money over the next five years to improve the health and wellbeing of the local population.

Those completing feedback forms will be entered into a free prize draw to win a choice of a Wii and Wii Fit console, a Weekend break for two or a 12 month leisure pass for two.

The consultation period will run until 7 November 2008 and the final plan will be published in March 2009.
