St Gabriel’s welcomes Mayor to ‘Mother Goose’ performance

Date published: 02 March 2022

A school in Castleton was delighted to welcome the Mayor of Rochdale to their theatre production last week.

St Gabriel’s performed ‘Mother Goose’ to a sold-out audience full of enthusiasm, which featured current Mayor Aasim Rashid and former mayor Billy Sheerin.

The pantomime was written and directed by Simon Thompson, and performed by the local parish church, alongside current and former pupils, on Wednesday 23 February.

Assistant director Laura Culshaw, who teaches Maths at St Gabriel’s, said: “It went really well, there was really good audience engagement and everyone seemed to enjoy it.”

Mayor Rashid said: “It was a wonderful pantomime. As a mayor I was really proud to attend, every character in the pantomime had a good and positive role.

“Especially the community and school, they are playing a wonderful role, so it was a very positive impact on the Castleton community. This is really a proud time for the Castleton board.”
