Snow is expected at elevations above 200-300metres, with several centimetres of snow expected across higher routes of the Pennines and Scotland
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office tonight (Thursday 24 February).
The warning covers the majority of the north west of England and Scotland, with rain, hail and sleet “likely to affect many areas this evening.”
Snow is expected at elevations above 200-300 metres, with several centimetres of snow expected across higher routes of the Pennines and Scotland.
The Met Office adds: “Beyond midnight, showers will become less widespread and will fall increasingly as rain or sleet away from some higher routes and parts of northern Scotland.
“However as temperatures fall, icy stretches are possible more widely, especially on untreated surfaces.”
The warning is in place from 8pm Thursday to 9.30am on Friday (25 February).
